Bully Stories ProjectDr. Wendy Miller collaborated with Mrs. Meyer to design the Bully Project to combat bullying by helping students grow in empathy. Middle school students completed a Google survey designed by Dr. Miller’s art education pre-service teachers. The results from this survey were used to see and know that students were not alone when it came to times in which they had experienced bullying or had stood up to bullying. Dr. Miller and her pre-service teachers visited our middle school to deliver this lesson to my students.

Bully AssemblyOlivia, Dalton, and Ashli explained the bully stories project and then the YouTube video Bully Project Collaboration with UNI and Mrs. Bass was shown
to all 650 5th through 8th graders to raise awareness on
this issue. Mrs. Bass, our school
interventionist, knew that the Bully Project would positively impact our
building as a whole when she saw the impact the students’ artwork was having. Students’ artwork was also on display as a
reminder of the message that was being shared about Bullying.

Hopes, Wishes, and RegretsThis video showcases Linda McConaughy's 8th grade class project at Parkville Middle School. This project was created so that students could "see the power of art and the power of their own ideas beyond the classroom." -Art Education for Social Justice p.129
Linda stated in Art Education for Social Justice, "Rather than asking my students to share their secrets, my students asked the school community to share theirs- their hopes, wishes, and regrets- and my students made art in response to what was shared with them (p. 130)." |
